The Nevada NASA Space Grant Consortium (NVSGC) announces available funding for the 2021-2022 Undergraduate Scholarship Program. This opportunity is designed to support independently conceived research or hands-on-projects by NSHE undergraduate students in disciplines that will help advance the missions and goals of NASA. Scholarship projects should generate measurable results or advancements in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) research that are relevant to NASA’s science and technology goals.

NASA Office of STEM Engagement Cooperative Agreement Notice (CAN) Amendment – LOI deadline 11/10/2020

The NASA Office of STEM Engagement (OSTEM) has released an informal competitive solicitation to provide planning funds to develop a national-level STEM project and prepare a formal proposal to one of NASA’s Mission Directorates in 2021. The goal of this effort is to “provide funding to begin initial planning that will reduce potential implementation risk(s) of the larger proposed effort(s)”.

2021 Nevada NASA EPSCoR Research CAN Pre-proposal – LOI deadline 09/07/2020

The National NASA EPSCoR Program has revised the schedule for the Research Cooperative Agreement Notice (CAN) once again. It is anticipated that the National NASA EPSCoR CAN solicitation will be released in late-November 2020 with a single full proposal submission due in early February 2021. To allow sufficient time to select and develop a single strong full proposal from Nevada, a letter of intent and pre-proposals are being solicited in advance of the Federal CAN release.

Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) Academic Year 2020-2021 Scholarships – 04/27/2020 Deadline to Apply

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) announces the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) Academic Year 2020-2021 Scholarships to promote undergraduate research.

Focus: The UROP program promotes intensive undergraduate research opportunities for university students. Through these research experiences, our goal is to enhance the recruitment and retention of undergraduates in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) disciplines, particularly those related to solar energy and its effects on water resources and the environment in general.

Eligibility: Undergraduate students enrolled full time (12 credits), during both Fall 2020 and Spring 2021, at any NSHE institution during the time they are conducting their research. Scholar must have an NSHE faculty mentor to supervise their research project. Past recipients of a NSF-EPSCoR undergraduate research scholarship under the current NEXUS award are not eligible to apply.

Students working in areas of science, technology, engineering or math (STEM), except for medical sciences, are eligible. Fields related to solar energy, water and/or environmental research are of special interest. Students with research tied to medical sciences are encouraged to apply for the National Institutes of Health IDeA Network for Biomedical Research Excellence (NIH INBRE). The Nevada NASA Space Grant Graduate Research Opportunity Fellowships program (GROF) is designed to support independently conceived NASA-related research projects by graduate students. NASA fellowship opportunities are focused on innovation through projects that will generate measurable results or advancements in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math which will contribute to NASA’s current and future science and technology goals.

2020-2021 Pre-College Teacher Training (TT) and Hands-On-Training (HOT) Program – 02/03/2020 Deadline to apply

The Nevada Space Grant Consortium (NVSGC) seeks to fund three Teacher Training and/or Hands-On-Training projects with a maximum federal contribution of $25,667 each. Due to requirements of the Space Grant program, a 1:1 institutional match is required on all awarded funds. The number of awards and funding level are contingent on the requested amount for each proposal and the availability of funds. We will announce the proposals selected for funding prior to our receipt of next year’s funds. Please note that potential delays in Congressional appropriations and release of funds that sub-awards will most likely not be released until June 2020.  

2020-2021 Higher Education (HE): Curriculum Development (CD) and Hands-on-Training (HOT) Faculty Competition – 02/03/2020 Deadline to apply

 The Nevada Space Grant Consortium (NVSGC) seeks to fund four projects for either Curriculum Development or Hands-On-Training. The maximum federal contribution for each project is $25,000. Due to requirements of the Space Grant program, a 1:1 institutional match is required on all awarded funds. The total maximum budget amount with match per proposal therefore is $50,000 (maximum $25,000 federal + maximum $25,000 institutional match). The number of awards and funding level are contingent on the availability of funds. We will announce the proposals selected prior to our receipt of next year’s funds. Please note that potential delays in Congressional appropriations and release of funds will result in sub-awards occurring in June 2020 or a little later.

2020-2021 NV NASA Space Grant Research Infrastructure – 02/10/2020 Deadline to apply

The Nevada Space Grant Consortium (NVSGC) seeks to develop a diverse and capable Nevada STEM workforce by providing funds for NASA-related faculty research and/or workforce development projects. Selected faculty projects will enhance Nevada’s research infrastructure and/or provide STEM workforce development opportunities for students in NASA Mission Directorate research topic areas (see attached list). These funds should not augment existing funded research projects.

2020 NASA EPSCoR Research Infrastructure Development Seed Grant – 02/10/2020 Deadline to apply

The programmatic focus is to further engage and utilize Nevada’s unique resources and talent for enhancing scientific discovery and/or developing new technologies to address NASA’s research priorities. The request for seed grant funds may be based on outcomes from prior workshops/meetings with NASA Personnel; however, a seed grant award should not augment existing funded research projects. Research Infrastructure Development (RID) activities should target unique activities that increase Nevada’s competitiveness.
