The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) announces the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) Summer 2023 and Academic Year 2023-2024 Scholarships to promote undergraduate research.
Focus: The UROP program promotes intensive undergraduate research opportunities for NSHE students. Through these research experiences, our goal is to enhance the recruitment and retention of undergraduates in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) disciplines, particularly those related to fire science.
Eligibility: Undergraduate students enrolled full time during either Summer or both Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 at any NSHE institution during the time they are conducting their research. For the purposes of this scholarship, full-time during fall/spring is a minimum of 12 credits, and full-time during summer is a minimum of 1-3 credits. Scholar must have an NSHE faculty mentor to supervise their research project. Past recipients of an NSF-EPSCoR undergraduate research scholarship under the current HDRFS award are not eligible to apply, unless the research project is tied to the NSF EPSCoR Harnessing the Data Revolution for Fire Science (HDRFS) project.
Students working in areas of science, technology, engineering or math (STEM), except for medical sciences, are eligible. Fields related to fire science areas: 1) Ecology, 2) Hydrology, 3) Fire Processes; and 4) Fire Emissions and their Atmospheric Aging are of special interest. Students with research tied to medical sciences are encouraged to apply for the National Institutes of Health IDeA Network for Biomedical Research Excellence (NIH INBRE).
