Nevada NASA Space Grant Consortium

The Space Grant Consortium works to expand opportunities for U.S. Citizens to understand and participate in NASA’s aeronautics and space programs. The NVSGC program supports and enhances science and engineering education, research and outreach programs in the state.

Through NVSGC, NSHE promotes public outreach and K-12 education activities at local schools, museums and planetariums.

NVSGC targets hands-on workforce training and research in the strategic areas of astrobiology, astrophysics, planetary geology and geophysics, and engineering. Established NvSGC goals and objectives enhance the ability of the Consortium to ensure program success and:

  • Increase participation by underrepresented groups
  • Develop the capacities of Nevada students and faculty to participate in or host competitions
  • Establish formal mentoring and student recognition programs
  • Formalize industrial partnering relationships to increase opportunities for internships, externships and student interactions with industry
  • Increase the number of applicants for internships and academy positions at NASA centers
  • Establish new courses within the NSHE institution’s curricula
  • Continue to increase the number and quality of applicants for fellowships and scholarships
