Committee Member Charge
Background: On September 1, 2010 the Nevada System of Higher Education
(NSHE) received a two year award of $1 million from the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR). The goal of this project is to enhance connectivity within NSHE to achieve higher network speeds and capacity to advance NSHE education and research. There are two high priority objectives that will enhance connectivity within the state and train the workforce to take full advantage of the connectivity enhancements:
1. Improve research, collaboration, and education by making connectivity
upgrades that will attain high network speeds up to 160 times
Nevada’s current system (remove and)
2. Engage and train the workforce on how to utilize these higher network
speeds and new technology, which is essential for realizing the full
potential of cyberinfrastructure improvements in our state.
Charge: The External Advisory Committee (EAC) is made up of three national experts in the project’s focus areas. We ask that EAC members make two on -campus site visits to NSHE, one for each year of the project. The EAC
will:
1. Review progress toward achieving outcomes of the projects
2. Make constructive suggestions for improving and/or changing the
direction of the work underway. Shortly after each annual EAC meeting
we ask that the committee provide the project PI and management team
with a 3-5 page report including the following elements: general
overview of the project and its progress, and a summary of project
strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and suggestions.
